A New Multimedia Studio
Client:
Ames National Lab
Role:
Project Lead
Year:
2024
Project Overview
Ames National Lab lacked a dedicated space to answer a variety of multimedia needs. In 2024, Communications was awarded $32,000 to construct and equip a new AV studio that could be used both for enterprise and personal projects.
Our Approach
I knew Ames needed a space that could be modular and mobile. Every year, a rumor of the department being relocated after the pandemic kept us ready to pack up and move out. Many of our scientists also worked in large laboratory spaces that were perfect for on-site shooting, and it would add much more production value to be able to move equipment into these spaces.
After a lot of conferencing with industry colleagues, I decided to center the core of the investment on augmenting our space with audio and lighting capabilities. I also invested in safety equipment and infrastructure that could be managed by one person. After the project was finished and signed-off, we came in underbudget.
